I prefer to be obedient but I struggle to Just Obey. Obedience to God’s laws, commands and instructions is for my good, it keeps me ALIVE but the more I try to walk in His ways set before me, the more I struggle to obey, “I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.” Romans 7:15(NLT) is there something wrong with me? There is nothing wrong with anybody who so desires to obey God but somehow, finds it difficult to Just Obey. Even Paul the apostle struggled and he understood this when he said, “But if I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good. So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it”. Romans 7:15(NLT) You are not the one who struggles to obey but sin that lives in you, so don’t reason with sin, JUST Obey.
Moses dedicated an entire chapter of the Bible to obedience because he had first hand experience in the rebellion of the children of Israel and how God dealt with them. It can be quite difficult to obey God’s laws and commands because obedience is one of the hardest thing to do in life yet it’s the one thing that can save marriages, protect children and give life to the lifeless. One of the secrets to living life through difficult moments is to Just Obey God’s instructions faithfully and you are guaranteed to live. For the children of Israel, the instruction was clear, listen, obey and live. Those who listened to God’s instructions and obeyed, stayed alive and those who were disobedient perished in the wilderness. In other words, Just Obey and Live. Obedience is the key to living the life God intended for His children. Obedience guarantees LIFE in God. Obedience is one of those things you either turn deaf ears to and you suffer the consequences as you watch life goes off the tangent, or you adhere to it faithfully and you reap the benefits thoroughly.
Rebellion might be the new norm, rebels may seem to have the best time of their lives but the road they travel on is very thin and the end of it is destruction. A smoker may rebel against the rule of health that states ‘smoking is dangerous to your health’ and He/she may enjoy the psychological pleasure or the physiological satisfaction smoking brings them but the result of such rebellion is a downward spiral in health. The new revolution may welcome everybody who dares to confront the law or change the law to suit personal needs, give equal rights and equal opportunities in all things, give liberty to hypocrisy in the name of ‘inclusiveness’ or hospitality, but the liberty we chase with human strength only moves us far away from God and the life He has planned for us.
Obedience will keep you alive and on the right track in life. Disobedience will only steer you in the wrong direction. Just Obey God. Whatever you think is difficult to do in obedience to God’s laws, commands and instructions is hundred times as hard in disobedience. Difficult moments may discourage your heart, trials and tribulations may overwhelm you, never give up. Choose life, be focused on your goals, listen and obey God’s instructions and you will LIVE. Live through difficult moments, it’ll only strengthen you and make your personality more formidable. People or tasks may overwhelm you, it’s only temporary, this too shall pass. Never give up on life in difficult times. Difficult moments are there to strengthen you, mature you and make you a formidable individual. Those who live through difficult moments without giving up on God and on life, always overcome. Turbulence may rock your boat, the prince of peace will calm the storm when you simply OBEY.
