God’s ways are not our ways and his thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8). It will be foolhardy of us to think that we are perfect and we know all the ways to do things. We are not all knowing like God, He is the only omnipotent and omniscient ever in existence. When we follow our ways, we get lost in the world but when we follow God’s ways, we are saved, delivered, redeemed and shielded from impending evil.
When we align our lives to his ways, we reap the benefits of obedience but when we do things our way, we reap the consequences that may arise with it. The ways of the world are enticing and appealing but what benefits does it bring in the end? King Solomon called its benefit as vanity upon vanity(Ecc 1:2), and it leads to death (Proverbs 14:12). But God’s way leads to abundant, fulfilling and eternal life (Mathew 7:14).
Moses tried to do things his way; he hated injustice and he delivered justice with his bare hands when he killed the Egyptian (Exodus 2:11-12). God’s way is not killing but instilling his fear in the heart of men. A man who lives carelessly, is wasteful and selfish follows his own way and he will eventually lose his family. This clearly isn’t God’s plan for our lives but that we may be appreciative of one another, live selflessly and love one another. How many times have you tried to do things your way yet failed those many times?
You may be one of the many people who is struggling to follow God’s ways. Struggling to walk in God’s ways isn’t part of the deal when you accepted Christ in your life. You no longer need to struggle in this way for there is help available to you and me in his word. We have His word. It is active and powerful. And we can use it to our advantage. For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires (Hebrews 4:12).
We can declare the scripture and speak the word of God over our lives, and our thoughts and attitude will be aligned to God’s will and grace that enables us to do right by him. So if you are struggling to follow God’s ways in your life, make the following declaration of faith your mantra until you see yourself doing right by God.
Make a Declaration of Faith
- Today I will trust in the LORD with all my heart and I will not lean on my own understanding. In all my ways I will acknowledge God and he will make my paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).
- I have been made righteous through Christ Jesus, therefore I declare my way shall be made smooth, my path shall be leveled, it is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. I will follow God’s judgments, I will wait eagerly for his memory and my ways shall be made straight(Isaiah 26:7, Proverbs 4:18).
- I am a vessel unto the Lord, purified and sanctified for his glory. I will no longer compromise my faith nor my walk with God for the lustful desires of this world, but rather, I will observe God’s testimonies, seek after his heart and walk in his ways, and the Lord God will bless me. He will go before me and the God of Israel will be my rear guard (Psalm 119:1-3).
