It’s Easter Sunday and I recount the day I accepted Jesus Christ the saviour into my life. Before this day, I was still a sinner. Even though I grew up in a Christian home, I went through all the motion of praying, fasting, reading my Bible and going to church regularly. I even said the salvation prayer at some point in my teenage years but living the Christian life never really did sink into my mind.
I remember quite clearly the day I cried out to Jesus Christ to save me. I was drowning in sorrow, guilt and shame. I was depressed and going through a really rough time in all areas of my life. I was rejected by family and friends and nobody seemed to want to have anything to do with me. I had been bruised and knocked down emotionally and battered physically which led to my suffering from a low self-esteem.
I don’t know what came over me but I broke down that day in tears and I called upon the name of God from the corner of my room. I cried out to God and he heard me from his holy hill. The peace that engulfed me after my prayers were unexplained and I haven’t looked back since then. You too can experience such peace and freedom in Christ if you so desire. Below are four reasons I believe you need to know to help you accept Jesus Christ into your life.
1. FOR ABUNDANT LIFE
The devil has us bound in deceits and lies. He has blinded us and enticed us with the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. We are so lost in the world with our won desires culminated with the heightening of our emotions for things of this world such that an easy life in God through Christ Jesus seemed less appealing.
Jesus Christ came to shine some light on our path. He opened our eyes to see the tactics of the devil as a liar and a thief who came only to steal, to kill and to destroy. Yet we close our eyes to the truth as we pursue the latest gadget, travel the world, control the mass and manipulate situations to suit our needs. We think less of others and more of ourselves. We look to the gods of this world on how to please ourselves against pleasing God in all that we do, and we go all the way to satisfy our flesh without thinking of the consequences it might bring to our soul. We have us blinded from the abundant life in God.
Yet Jesus Christ came to give us abundant life in God. He came to give us life and life in abundant (John 10:10). If you are tired of the rat race, Tired of living to satisfy the human flesh, tired of living to please others rather than God, then Christ is your way out of such life and your way into abundant life.
I am the gate. If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved. He will come in and go out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it in all its fullness (John 10: 9-10).
2. FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS
Jesus Christ died for your sins. Nobody can claim to be holy, free of sin. We have all sinned and our sins has banned us from God’s presence but when Christ died, he took it upon himself to carry the sin of the world and to make us right with God. Because of Christ’s death, our sins are forgiven and we are finally accepted by God.
He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised to life to make us right with God. Romans 4:25
3. FOR SALVATION OF YOUR SOUL
Jesus Christ died so that you can be saved. Have you ever thought of the afterlife? What would happen when you die? Are you going to rest in the Lord and be in heaven or is your soul going to be tormented in hell? When you accept Christ, you are saved from eternal damnation and delivered into eternal life. Because of Christ’s death, you have been set free from all manner of bondage and the captivity of the enemy.
Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. Hebrews 9:28
4. FOR FREEDOM FROM YOKES AND HEAVY BURDENS
The burden of sin is heavy and its consequences is fatal. With Christ’s death you are set free from such burden and such consequences are cancelled against you. His yoke is easy and his burden is light. He calls you into freedom from sin, freedom from addictions, freedom from sufferings, freedom from pain, unfairness, disloyalty, injustice and everything that so weigh you down in life so that you can be free to serve him in holiness and in truth.
He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds, you are healed. 1 Peter 2:24
