Death Bed Scriptural Declarations of Faith

About two thousand years ago, at just age 33 years old, Jesus of Nazareth faced death alone on the cross of Calvary. He was persecuted for his faith and condemned to death on the cross. Feeling alone and forsaken on his death cross, he cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?” Mathew 27:46 (NIV).

Jesus had never felt so alone and forsaken until that moment when everyone had deserted him. He had never felt so alone and forsaken until the terror of death engulfed him. He had never felt so alone and forsaken until the moment he was scorned, beaten and crucified on the cross for a crime he did not commit. Facing death alone is scary. No matter how old you are, you will never be ready. For death separates us from what we know and it takes us to a territory unfamiliar.

It is therefore no wonder that Billy Graham who died at the age of 99 years old made a bold declaration of faith many years before his death, with such foresight and insight into death he professed; “My home is in heaven, I’m just travelling through this world”. Such declaration of faith helps in facing death alone at any age. Such legacy, such example is worth following most especially on death beds.

Perhaps you are on your death bed and feeling afraid, alone, forsaken and dejected. Making a bold declaration of faith will strengthen you for the next journey to eternity. It’ll shift your focus away from the tribulations of this world and set your heart on the journey home to heaven.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” Psalm 23:1-6 (ESV)
