Leave Your Comforts and Be Humble

Humility sometimes may mean leaving your comfort zones. Every now and again I leave the comfort of my home to babysit or house sit for somebody who is in desperate need of help. Whilst it gives me great pleasure to help others, it can be such an inconvenience when I don’t meet the same comfort I left behind.

I remember complaining to the Lord one day and his answer was; “the same way you have left your comforts for the convenience of others, I have caused others to adjust their lives and inconvenient themselves for you whenever you’re in need of help”.

This response really humbled me. It made me see the state of my heart at the time as being self centered and it kept me in check from pride. It also opened my eyes to see that God is watching my intentions and my actions. Where I thought he was not watching the way I was being treated, he saw it all and he had gone ahead of me to arrange a blessing in return.

It is the comfortable things of life that that puffs us up. And it is these very things that the Lord said to give up and follow him. God put it this way to Abraham; “The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you” (Genesis 12:1) and Jesus put it this way to the rich young man; ” Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”(Matthew 19:21). Without questioning the instruction or weighing up his options, Abraham obeyed and carried out his instruction. The young rich man was not so happy with his instruction and so he failed the test of his heart.

Anybody who humbles themselves and lives their lives for others will get so much more out of life through God. When you leave all your comforts for the things of God, He sets you on higher ground. He lifts you up and fights your battle for you. When you humble yourself before the Lord without considering yourself first, he puts you first ahead of everybody else. When you do good for people without telling anybody else that you did it for them, The Lord announces to the world what you have done for him. When you swallow your pride and you apologise when you are wrong, the Lord places you in the right stead with people. When you Let go of your ego even when we are right. To consider others first and put ourselves in their shoes before we act or react against them.

Action Point: Test your heart today. Leave the things that make you comfortable (Perhaps choose to be wrong in some situations, apologise where necessary, make yourself inconvenient for somebody else) etc and believe God for the best.

Perhaps you find yourself unable to leave your comfort or unable to humble yourself, speak out loud the following words until it enters your heart and it begins to change your orientation towards this sets of instruction and watch how your world changes for the best.

Make a declaration of faith with me today.
I declare today I will focus less on my convinience and I will extend myself to others without complaints. I will humble myself and keep in constant check my intentions and my actions towards others. I will not abuse my privileges but I will be thankful to God for answered prayers and the Lord will reward me for my labour of love.
