Why Declare Your Identity in Christ?
You declare your identity in Christ for many reasons and there are different ways to do it. Be it in words or actions, you want the world to know who you are, what you stand for and to whom you belong. Apart from these things, it will also help you build your faith in God, recover from an identity crisis, overcome low self-esteem and make your Christian life journey a little bit easier. Besides, a good follower of Jesus Christ, the son of God will seek to emulate Christ’s behaviour and meditate on his I am declarations to know him intimately.
Additionally, the revelations of your identity in Christ are a powerful weapon of warfare to combat many life crises. They are lights for your life journey and will give clear directions in confusing times. If Jesus Christ regularly declared who he is to the world then so should you. After all, your association with His image clearly identifies you as a child of God and separates you from conformity with the world. Otherwise, life and the people of the world will rock your boat easily and distract you from living your abundant life in Christ.
I AM Declarations of Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ shared the I AM declarations for various reasons and at different times. Even though He was one hundred per cent man and one hundred per cent God (1 Timothy 2:5). He did it so that people would know His authentic self, to whom he belongs and where He came from.
Declare your identity in Christ
You can declare your identity in Christ by speaking the truth when in compromising situations. Then you won’t have to live in guilt and say the prayer of forgiveness for telling lies and being deceitful. Suppose Jesus Christ of Nazareth didn’t speak his truths to overcome temptations in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11), then you wouldn’t know how to guard yourself with the belt of truth today. It is, after all, the truth you know and speak that will set you free (John 8:32). Therefore, don’t delay to declare your identity in Christ when the devil comes in like a flood with thoughts of doubts, worries or personal fear. Tell him that you are a child of God and disallow his emotional blackmail. Do it even more when tempting thoughts of, “I can do bad all by myself” pervades your mind and watch him leave you alone.
Additionally, you can declare your identity in Christ by pledging your allegiance to God and standing by your word. We all know the apple does not fall far from the tree and the best way to show your loyalty to God as the apple of God’s eye is to choose right from wrong when the pressure to do wrong mounts. You can let the world know that you have a new life in Christ (Galatians 2:20) and you belong to God Almighty (1 John 4:4), not to any other gods. Even Joseph, son of Jacob and the dreamer, was not behind in this act. He boldly declared his allegiance with God by obeying His commandments; “Thou shall not covet your neighbour’s wife! (Exodus 20:17). He spoke truths to power and fled from sinning against God. His reward was retaining his sexual purity(Genesis 39:1-12).
Furthermore, you declare your identity in Christ with your obedience to God. That was how many founding fathers of faith in the Holy Bible did it. They obeyed God’s commandments and reaped the benefits. Moses, for example, followed God’s instructions despite his low self-esteem. Abraham also followed God’s instructions to sacrifice his son despite being too old to have another. Joseph the carpenter took Mary in despite her pregnancy status. There were too many to count but we, too, can do the same to live an abundant life in Christ. You can overcome the devil quicker when you choose to be on the Lord’s side and reap the benefits for a lifetime.
Benefits of Declaring Your Identity in Christ
There are so many benefits to gain from declaring your identity in God. For a start, you will debunk all lies of the enemy and develop an overcomer mindset. Then you will overcome in life and enjoy your best life in Christ. Besides these things, you will also enjoy the following:
- Find yourself when feeling lost
- Receive comfort when dealing with the loss of any kind
- Gain clarity when making life-altering decisions
