People no longer speak the truth in the world. Their mouths are full of lies and deceit. They get by in life at the expense of other people’s happiness; they pretend, and there’s no truth found in them. I have had my share of being deceived, and it really hurts. When deception sneaked up on me, I was unguarded. It came from where I least expected it and from one of my closest friends. It came in my most vulnerable moment and ensnared me with a subtle solution to my problems. Little did I know that its subtle counsel was going to be my ruin.
It happened when Jesus was hungry too. He had been fasting for forty days and forty nights and he was hungry when the devil sneaked up on him suggesting the only seemingly solution at the time; “turn these stones to bread” he urged Jesus. But Jesus recognised the devil’s trick to deceive, and he was able to overcome the lust of the flesh. Had he succumbed to the devil’s tactics he would have fallen for that solution and that would have ended his ministry (Matthew 4:3).
Be wary of deception; it always comes with promising enlightenment. It happened to Eve. She was minding her own business when the serpent crawled up to her and struck up a sensible conversation with her in the garden of Eden; “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.” (Genesis 3:5). Deception plays on your vulnerability and feeds on your fears too. Think about what it did to Ananias and Saphira. It was their land they sold and their money to keep, but the devil played a trick on their minds, and they tried to deceive the man of God. The end thereof was death (Acts 5:1-11).
Deception always captures the minds of its victims. It is the way the world functions. Be on alert. Guard the walls of your heart against deception, either to deceive others or from being deceived by others. It is not God’s way. His ways are perfect, straightforward and transparent. When a man conceals a relationship, that woman might have fallen prey to the spirit of deception. When your stomach is full after eating a plateful of food, yet you can’t resist another plate, you might have fallen prey to deception. When you have important things to do, but you find yourself glued to the TV, you are being deceived.
Deception always plays a trick on people. When it seems like you have been captured by the spirit of deception, when you are feeling deceived or when the devil is playing a trick on your mind in trying to convince you to lie with the intent to deceive somebody else, make a dash for the sword of the spirit and speak out loud the following declarations for your victory.

1) I demolish arguments and pretension that sets itself against the knowledge of God, and I take captive every thought and I make them obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5Â NIV)

3) Henceforth I walk in the integrity of heart, my path is secured and I attract integrity in return.

5) God will arise on my behalf and save me from the spirit of deception. When deceitful spirit come against me in one way, God will raise up a standard against it so that I do not fall prey to its captivity.

6) I declare that I am enabled as a child of God to act justly and to stay on the path of righteousness. I speak the truth and I stand by the truth. I stay far away from deception, corruption and lying tongues. Hence God delights in me and he rewards my obedience to his word.

7) I no longer sow into the flesh where lies, deceit or corruption leads to destruction, but henceforth I sow consciously into the spirit speaking the truth at all times and it sets me free.

8) I speak the truth in love, and I grow in all aspects of Christ, who is the head over me.

9) I walk by the spirit, and the desires of the flesh I will not fulfil. I am no longer under the law but under grace therefore I submit to the spirit of God, He leads and guides me in all I do. I walk by the spirit, and he leads me into all truth.

10) I am a child of God, and I do the will of God. I worship God in spirit and in truth. I do unto others as I want them to do to me. I stay away from malice, bitterness, anger, slander, strife, envy, and jealousy as God gives me grace and strength, and I no longer fulfil the desires of the flesh.

11) I declare that I am not afraid to speak the truth at any time, but the Lord God empowers me to speak the truth to nations in boldness, and as I speak the truth in love to others, so is truth multiplied to me in manifold. Deception is exposed, and the truth prevails in my life at all times. I will not deal with others in lying tongues or in deceit, but henceforth, I live and rejoice in the truth, and it sets me free. No matter how bitter the truth is, I embrace it into my bosom; it edifies me and keeps me aligned to God’s will for my life. Whenever I speak the truth, it builds me up and honours me. It does not destroy me, nor does it ruin my reputation, my image or my name. It does not put me down, but instead, it makes me a better person and elevates me to a position of honor. Henceforth, I walk in the understanding of heart with the truth on my tongue and peace dwells in my gate.
