Divorce

Why Does God Hate Divorce? – A Fresh Perspective

Why does God hate divorce

God’s spirit grieves over divorce. Have you ever seen two best friends or loved-up couples together? Did you notice how they talk about each other, finish each other’s sentences, love each other deeply, and gaze into each other’s eyes so much that they would want to enter into each other’s body? Don’t you just love it when they do these things together and with each other? Do you not wish to be a part of that loving relationship? This is exactly what God wants to see when two people come together. When two people come together in true love, they uphold the image of God. For God is love, and God created human beings in his image, after his likeness.

Image of God

God hates divorce because of the image of God in human beings. The image of God honors, respects, prefers one another. Not one person is above the image of God. Nobody is too aged, too old, too short or too tall, too dark or too light, too thin or too fat. Everybody is made in this image of God.

The image of God is that of unity, not disunity. The image of God is that of love, not of dislike or hatred. The image of God is that which says I’m all in, not that which says, I am one leg in and one leg out. The image of God is that which is selfless, not selfish. It covers a multitude of sins; it does not recount how many times you have offended me or how many times you keep hurting me. The image of God is not rude or disrespectful; far from it.

God is triune in his image. He is God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit. He is one God, yet he is not alone. When he created the heavens and the earth, he did it with his companions. When he created human beings, he consulted with his companions, and he said, “Let ‘US’ make man in our own image”(Genesis 1:26).

God and his companions are inseparable. They are one, and they do everything together(John 5:20). They are in tune with one another. They are fused together; nothing can separate them. None of them disagrees with one another. Everything they do together is good(Genesis 1:31). The father is in the son, and the son is in the father (John 14:10-11, 1 John 2:23), and they have the Holy Spirit with them. They have such a beautiful relationship together and this is exactly what he wants for his created beings. This image of God is perfect, and he wants his children to embrace his image.

Save Face

In China, they uphold the tradition of saving face. It does not matter who you are and what you do. You must save face. You must respect the other person’s feelings. Children of God must learn to save face as they do in China. To God, family is first. No matter who you are or what you do, you carry the image of God on you, and you must learn to save face simply for the image you carry.

When two people refuse to uphold the image of God in their relationship, they break God’s heart. Christian divorce

KACOU 51: EPISTLE TO THE BRIDE OF CHRIST
22 Well, the first point I would like to broach is prostitution. There are three forms of prostitutions. The normal form is when the woman rents a house and easily receives her customers, lovers or boyfriends or if it is a so-and-so who has rented the house for her and she receives him alone. Sometimes, she has a child from him and presents him as her husband but she is a first rank prostitute. It is like for what you can see in university residences. The greatest centres of prostitution are university residences.

23 Yet, in the first case, everybody knows that she is a prostitute. Her sin is like him that lives out of loan with interest. She is an abomination in the eyes of men but she is not in the eyes of God. All the tribe of Judah descends from Tamar, a prostitute of this kind. There is also Rahab and these two prostitutes are great-grandmothers of King David. You see?

24 But the second form is an abomination in the eyes of God and it is when a girl, a boy or a woman has sexual relations being in the house of his/her parents or at his/her guardian’s. Even if it is with only one man, she is a prostitute. In Genesis 38, nobody saw Tamar with a man, but when she got pregnant… here’s what is written in verse 24: ” And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter-in-law has committed fornication, and behold, she is also with child by fornication. And Judah said, Bring her forth, that she may be burned.” [Ed: committed fornication = prostituted herself] You see?

25 You say: Brother Philippe my parents know him… That’s very good! But if you have had sexual relations once, then you are prostitutes and the Curse of God is upon you. You say: Brother Philippe, he’s my… he’s serious or she’s serious. That’s very good! But if you have had sexual relations once, then you are prostitutes and the Curse of God is upon you. You are the cause of all the Curses of God upon the earth and you shall give an account of that one day before God. You say: “Brother Philippe, when he laid his hands upon me to pray, I didn’t close my eyes!” You are a prostitute! You say: “Brother Philippe, he had surprised me, so under his influence, I couldn’t refuse”. You are a prostitute! …

26 And it is sin which lies at the root of any engagement that does not end up with marriage. I am talking about long engagement. Some fiancés who remain together beyond 19 o’clock, do not but prepare the failure of their marriage. And he that after the baptism does not work violence upon himself before any sex desire does not want to be happy.

27 Yet, we must know that he that wants to succeed in any way must absolutely overcome the temptations he will be confronted with. He that does not want any temptation will be the slave of his brothers. And doesn’t nature itself teach that to us? At the creation, some plants approached God and said: “O God! We do not want storms and violent winds and burning sun! …” Then God made them grasses. While others approached and said: ” As for us, O God! With your help we can face all those temptations! Make us the big trees of the earth!” God told them: ” so, know that you will have storms in all your life, you will sometimes lose some branches, fruits and leaves but it is through that that your roots will get deeper [into the ground] and that you will be the big trees of the earth “. They answered and said: “O God! with your help we can!” And God made them cedars, sycamores and similar trees. And the earth was created. But after the creation, the grasses shouted out to God: ” O God, there is injustice on the earth, the big trees prevent us from receiving winter’s soft sun and spring’s soft rains; O God, judge them!”. You see?

28 You cannot pass from one school form to another without any test. And if you say: “Oh! I do not want any test!” you will grow old in preparatory classes. You see? This is a law of God, even having the Holy Spirit, you will be tempted by sex, lie, corruption as Paul says it in Rom.7, but you must resist! What does 1 Co.10:13 say: ” No temptation has taken you but such as is according to man’s nature; and God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above what ye are able to bear …” The Bible said in Matthew 4 that Jesus Himself overcame the various temptations then the Angels came to minister to Him. Mat.4:11 says that the devil left him then, and behold, Angels came and ministered to him.

29 And after having heard this this morning, you will take heed if you are children of God. And if this prostitution led to a child, I have nothing against that child. S/he is innocent and is not supposed to behave like his/her mother. S/he can even be a child of God. That’s exact! But be careful not to give any gift and congratulate this prostitute so as not to have any portion in the wages of her prostitution. You see, even the fact of putting her up is a contribution from you to her prostitution but I do not mean that you have to drive them out.

30 Well, now I would like to specify that the interpretations which are given to “fornication” and “licentiousness” are false. These acts do not imply necessarily sexual acts. First, licentiousness, it is all that is away from modesty and decency, whether in word or clothing or sexual act. Whereas fornication, according to the Larousse dictionary, it is the fact of being infatuated with covetousness, luxury and immorality which can include corruption, prostitution, quarrels, and similar things. The dictionary calls it: lust. Let’s see what the Larousse dictionary says again on… licentious: lacking decency in act and word. For example, the Bible does not name the front part of a man or woman, as well as certain things for decency reasons but the words exist in Hebrew: Deu.25:11, Gen.31:35…

31 Thus, any sexual act out of wedlock is prostitution; adultery is the prostitution of a married person. For example in Mat.19:9, it is said: ” But I say unto you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, not for fornication, and shall marry another, commits adultery; … “, and there are some pastors who think that the Lord means adultery, doesn’t the word “adultery” exist since the Old Testament? You see? It’s a false interpretation.

32 And a child born out of wedlock is a bastard child. Even if his father recognized him before he was born. It’s a fruit of prostitution. His father did not pay the dowry of his mother. But the dispensation of the grace gives him the right to Salvation, thing which was not possible in the Old Testament. You see? “A bastard shall not come into the congregation of Jehovah; even his tenth generation shall not come into the congregation of Jehovah .”(Deuteronomy 23:2).

33 But the dispensation of the grace gives him this right directly because the most abominable prostitution today is the spiritual prostitution. Henceforth, it by prostituting yourself with the gods of Catholic, Protestant, evangelical and Branhamist churches that the way to Heaven will be shut to you. Remember Exodus 23:24: “thou shalt NOT bow down to their gods …” You shall not go up to their high places… because it is the highest form of prostitution. Judges 2:17 says: “… for they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves to them”. The first two forms of prostitution are in connection with the body while this one is in connection with the spirit.

34 However, brethren, I also let you know that masturbation is both spiritual and physical. You see? Masturbation is the defilement of the body from one part of this body touching the most intimate part which is the Word. Ewald Frank was the Branhamists’ masturbating arm. You see? …

35 If a brother talks about politics, watch football or those comic scenes or movies on television…. If a brother lying with his wife, make her some mouth-to-mouth, putting his tongue in his wife’s mouth and eating some spittle of… [Ed: the congregation laughs] It’s an abomination! He is pagan. If a brother goes to wash with his wife in the shower, he is an effeminate man. Such people have nothing to do with the divine service. Their life will cancel the effort to sanctification of the others.

36 And when a man takes a girl that a man brought into the world and dishonours her, that is to say he lies with her, whether she wanted it or not, he is a thief and the Bible says that thieves will not go to Heaven. If a wandering chicken has a guardian, it is not a girl who will not have any. I cannot understand how such men repented and they are pastors in churches.

37 The most honourable thing of a woman, it is her virginity. That is more precious than all the diplomas that school can give her.

38 In the Old Testament, if you dishonour a woman, you are obliged to take her as your wife. And when there was marriage, the signs of virginity were given to the elders in testimony. And the day of the marriage, the bride can put on a white garment only if she is virgin. The white, it’s purity and virginity. And the bridegroom would raise the veil outt of his future wife’s face, which means that he will be the first man to discover this woman. Yet, we can now see everywhere an already defiled woman in white dress, it’s shameful for us who know what the white dress means. That’s a deceit. A prostitute in white dress and even with a veil, it is the image of their church. You see? It’s not right.

39 And they are such women who knew many things, insolent and emancipated women, in homes, who want to preach. Instead of trying to educate their children so that those ones may be what they themselves failed to be, they want to preach. You see?

40 Well, when a woman is dishonoured in the house of her parents, she has defiled the earth and the house of her parents forever. So has the man or boy who did that … Instead of being a blessing, they have been a curse for them and for herself and God has put a sign on her so that she might not live through the happiness that she would have had. No matter her beauty, the place that had been destined to her before the foundation of the world will be another’s. She will serve instead of being served.

41 And prostitution is at the root of all those curses, if not, God did not create man to suffer or remain alone while he wishes to get married. Up to twenty four years old, a woman is supposed to get married. And if it is not due to consecration to God, she is supposed to get married and it is a blessing. Otherwise she is not a blessing and should have no right to speak in the women’s assembly except if she is a virgin or a widow.

42 A woman is not called to make her father’s house her home. A woman shall not marry her father. You see, that’s what the Spirit says and I am only pronouncing it. You my sisters, take that for the better. Do you want me to continue? … [Ed: the congregation says, Amen!] . Very well, the blessing of a woman, it is first her home and her independence is not to go and rent a house or have financial and material means. And I pray that the Almighty God who has sent this Message will grant you his grace if you receive this for the better…..

It is a covenant with God, and a covenant can not be broken. It dose not matter if one is not doing right in the marriage, it is our responsibility as Christians to do all we can, to pray and intercede for them, not give up on them. God has not giving up on you when you didn’t live up to His expectations Now did He. We are to do all we can and ask God to do all the rest. How do you take what God has brought together and has made as one, and try to make two separate haves whole again. I did not write the book, I’m just living by it….

My sister got married in church without going to the registry. when they separate, the husband quickly went into a relation with another lady believing that their marriage is not legal and telling people that we were never married its ONLY church wedding. would that be true?

        Dear Jimbob,
I am sorry to hear about your sister’s story. It is a very delicate situation. I must confess to you that I am not a qualifies counsellor but I love the Lord and his word.

I would say that concerning church marriage, we often go to church to receive God’s blessings over the marriage and so before the eyes of God two becomes one. When we take ourselves before God for his blessings, its because we have accepted the authority and rulership of God over that marriage, so before God, two people have become one. It is a very similar principle before the law, we take ourselves to registry in submission to the rules and regulations of the state as a couple, that laq is legally binding just as the spiritual law is equally spiritually binding. I hope that little bit of information helps.

I’d be interested to hear how you would respond to a Christian in an abusive marriage, where the abuser is continually unrepentant? Surely, that person has already broken the covenant and promises they’ve made, long before the legal divorce.

        Dear Alexandra,
Thank you for your comment. I am not a qualified counsellor but I love the Lord and his word. My message was not an intent to condemn the divorced but to merely shed a light on the reason why God hates divorce. Its a scripture that is often misquoted by the knowledgeable, the theologians and the experts without being sensitive towards those who have gone through or going through divorce. My message is by no means an intent to condemn anybody in that stead.

To answer your question, I would advise those in an abusive relationship a period of separation until God intervenes and convinces each party on a resolution to their case.

Above all, let us be at peace with all men. Jesus admonished us to pray for those who spitefully use us, so I will encourage those in that situation to release the pain, the heartache, the hurt, the anger etc to Jesus and pray for those who hurt them. For it is only then that they can be thoroughly free to enjoy abundant life that Christ came to give us all.

I didn’t hear your post as condemnation, but I feel like the Bible has so much to say about separation and divorce and if we are trying to preach the word of God we need to be balanced and practical.

        Dear Alexandra,
You are very right, the Bible does address the issue of divorce and separation, most of which is often misquoted and misunderstood. I do not claim to be a preacher, please refer to the disclaimer section of the site on this. This article is not based on the theology of marriage, its simply an insight into what breaks God’s heart about the subject with practical examples and biblical citations. If it were to be an indepth teaching or an analysis, it would be an epistle.
