Seeking Forgiveness from God

Those who come to God for the forgiveness of their sins must first believe that he is a God who forgives sin. He does not hold back from us because we have sinned against him rather he reaches out to his children with mercy and compassion in his heart.

God is not petty and he does not keep scores with anybody. He is love and he does not keep records of wrongdoings. He searches much deeper within the hearts of men and he measures our motives more than our actions. He is compassionate and attentive to those seeking the forgiveness of their sins genuinely.

He is full of mercy and he does not like the death of sinners. He is willing to forgive your sins and my sins for as long as we come to him with a genuine repentance in our heart. Think of God’s mercy like the internet you use on a daily basis.

Sometimes when you have been browsing the net, you may have too many windows open and your browser may freeze and this may cause a disruption to your work. In order for you to continue using the internet, you will need to shut down all the windows opened and you will need to refresh the window for a fresh start.

This is God’s mercy towards his children. He erases our sins on a daily basis, he wipes the slate clean and he gives us a fresh start the following morning. He gives each one of us blank cheques at the start of each day. His mercies are new to you and I every morning.

It doesnt matter what you did yesterday or the day before yesterday or the years before that, God showers new mercies upon his children on a daily basis. This means that your past sins are forgiven for as long as you confess them and repent from them.

It means that your daily errors are erased for as many times as you recognise them, repent from them and turn away from them. This means that you have a brand new slate on a daily basis. This means you have a new day to start afresh and begin again because of the mercies of God expressed to you on a daily basis.

If we were to be judged by God according to our sins, nobody will be able to stand God’s wrath yet instead of him being angry with us, he showers us with his love. Instead of keeping records of our wrongdoings he does the opposite, he dismisses our mistakes and gives us a second chance to try again.

This is your chance to grab that forgiveness and live life in abundance. So perhaps you have been struggling to accept the forgiveness of sins from God, the following declarations will help open your heart to receive this gift of God that is readily available to you.

Make a bold declaration for the forgiveness of sins with me today

Today I tap into the mercies of God for the forgiveness of my sins. I believe my sins are forgiven me and they are abandoned in the ocean of forgetfulness never to be remembered again. Henceforth, I have a clean slate before the Lord and I choose to live in freedom. I choose to start my day afresh in the mercies of Jehovah who gives me a brand new beginning every single day.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Surely God’s goodness and mercy follows me all the days of my life. I extend the same mercy which I received from the Lord unto others and my errors are erased. I will no longer hold on to the hurts from those who offended me but I release them into the hands of the Lord to deal with them in accordance to his mercies.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Henceforth, I choose to walk in compassion. I will put myself in other people’s shoes and I will not hold them at ransom for their errors nor for their mistakes towards me. I will be sympathethic, sensitive, sensible and understanding towards others. I will walk in forgiveness and show the love of Christ as the Lord gives me grace.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Today I choose the path of righteousness. I will b careful to observe the Lord’s commandment, to be vigilant and to stay away from sinning against God. I will keep the doors of my mouth shut so that I do not sin against God and I will walk in the fear of God all the rest of my life.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I receive the mercies of God readily available to me anew and I choose to extend the same mercy to others around me. I will no longer hold grudges or keep malice against those who offend me and I release them into God’s hands so that he might deal with each person according to his mercies.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Henceforth I will walk in compassion and show the same mercy I have received to others so that I can also be forgiven.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I receive the forgiveness of sins in my heart. I believe that my iniquities are pardoned, my transgressions are blotted out and my sins are casted into the depths of the sea because of God’s great mercy. I show mercy to others just as I have also received mercy. God no longer remember my sins because of his great compassion on me. I am forgiven (Isaiah 43:25, Micah 7:7 8-19).

7 Bible Declarations To Help Christians Struggling To Admit Personal Wrongdoings

Not admitting personal wrongdoings is an act the world is accustomed with and you will be forgiven to think that such behavior does not exist among Christians. Unfortunately, Christians do struggle with this unethical behavior too. It started from the beginning when Adam blamed Eve for giving him the forbidden fruit to eat and Eve, in turn, blamed the crafty serpent for playing a trick on her (Genesis 1: 12-13). The truth is, despite having accepted Christ as personal Lord and savior, Christians still struggle with the flesh until the mind is completely renewed and life is transformed in Christ Jesus (Romans 12:2).

Apostle Paul struggled so much with the flesh, he lamented; “Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?” (Romans 7:24 NLT), “For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate” (Romans 7:15).

The Bible states that we have been chosen to conform to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29) and not to conform to the world. Unfortunately, the world has become like the crafty serpent and instead of encouraging admittance of wrongdoings, it discourages non conformists from doing the right thing. Should you admit being wrong in the world today, you are seen as a weakling and therein lies the struggle. The struggle to be seen as strong, independent, to be seen as a team player and be accepted in the work place, in the social circle, among friends and family is real among Christians too.

Sadly, the underlying cause for this prevalent plague is pride and there is a need to be cleansed of it. The Bible admonished us to stay away from pride, it comes before a fall (Proverbs 16:18). King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon reaped the consequences of being proud, he became an animal until God had mercy on him (Daniel 4). We are now in Christ Jesus and we must no longer conform to the way of the world but God’s way of doing things.

Should you struggle with admitting wrongdoings, do not be ashamed of it, do not cover it up, instead seek God’s help in humility and ask him to help you to be considerate of others in deeds and in words. This would be a sign of personal spiritual growth. Bible declarations below aim to help you on your way to freedom from this transgression.

10 Biblical Declarations of Repentance on Ash Wednesday

Repentance is not for sinners only, it is for new Christians, matured Christians and everybody who is capable and willing to admit personal wrong doings (James 5:15, Ephesians 5:11), accept own responsibilities (Romans 14:10) and make peace with God and man. Though we live in a world where people hardly admit wrongdoings, this is not the Christian way to living life in abundance. The Christian lifestyle would be to realise personal mistakes, admit wrong doings, repent and refrain from repeating the same mistakes again. In the history of Christianity, Ash Wednesday has been consecrated for such an act of repentance.

Repentance is when the thief on the cross rebuked the other thief saying; “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? We are suffering justly because we are getting what we deserve for what we have done; but this Man has done nothing wrong” (Luke 23:40-41). Repentance is when the despised tax collector considered by the Pharisees to be the worst sinner, went up to the temple to make amends with God. He beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner’ (Luke 18:13).

A state of self-reflection brings us to repentance and one that we must continuously observe like Job, who often sought God’s forgiveness for his children should they had sinned against God (Job 1:5). Should you be joining other Christians worldwide to observe lent, you are are taking the right step in trying to be right with God and knowing him more through fasting and praying.

In addition to preparing yourself for baptism, focusing on your relationship with God, choosing to give up something or to volunteer and serve others during Lent, below are Ash Wednesday Bible declarations of repentance for new and matured Christians observing Lent. Let the word of God be a sign of the cross to you as you speak it into existence and allow the word of God to wash over you in reflection and in repentance.

How to Return to God After Sinning

Since the time Adam sinned, sons of man have inherited death through sinning. “All men have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God“Romans 3:23. Through this, everybody born of man can no longer inherit eternal life except we ask for the forgiveness of our sins, repent from sinning and follow God through his son Jesus Christ.

Simply put, we are all sinners “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us” 1 John 1:8; and God’s eyes cannot behold sin (Habakkuk 1:13). How then can we return to God? I hope the following will convict and convince you to come back to God.

1) You must acknowledge that you are a sinner.  Admit your sins. For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Think about it this way; when you love somebody, you expect them to be open and honest with you. When your loved ones then lie to your face, how do you feel? do you feel bad? do you feel hurt, do you feel betrayed? That’s exactly how God feels when you do not admit your sins to him.

2) Choose not to hide your sin. Have you ever thought about why David was so special so much so that God said he was a man after his own heart? (Acts 13:22). David was a sinner like everybody else. He committed the most atrocious sins on the earth. He committed murder and then he tried to hide his sin.

This story is about David and Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11). The most atrocious adultery ever committed in history. David saw Beersheba, another man’s wife and proposed in his heart to sleep with her. Bathsheba got pregnant for David from their first night together and David decided to kill Uriah, the Hittite, Bathsheba’s husband.

David thought he was hiding his sin but God exposed him. The son died and the whole world knows the story till today. Moral of the story is there is nothing hidden from God. You may have succeeded in hiding your lies for a very long time, the truth will catch up with you, one day and the consequences may last a lifetime.

3) Be honest about your sins. Be open to God. He is your father in heaven. He may chastise you but he will never condemn you. Ananias and Saphira once sold their land (Acts 4). They chose to sow the proceeds of their land to God. When they got to the man of God, they lied about the proceeds for they kept some of the money to themselves. They had a good heart but a bad attitude. Because of this character, God struck them and they wound up dead. Both husband and wife died because of lies. Do not hide your sins from God. Simple honesty will spare your life.

Telling lies is a very bad character and one of the detestable sins before God. Say a Prayer of forgiveness for telling lies and being deceitful.

4) Think it through. Break it down in every area. List it out if you must but make sure you cover each sin. Do not be like the hypocrites or the heathen(Matthew 6:5-8), be clear over what you are saying before God.

5) Say the prayer of forgiveness over sin and believe in your heart that God has forgiven you. Turn away from that sin instead, cultivate a good character. May God be with you and fulfill the desires of your heart.
