Did you know that the humble pie is not a physical pie? In those days, when people go to the butcher and they ask for a humble, they are asking for the inside of an animal, especially of a deer to be used as food. The original term for the humbles is numbles, from the Middle French nobles, acquired as a variant umbles, sometimes later spelt humbles. At some point, however, the resemblance of the deer’s humble became irresistible and the literal pie became a metaphorical one signifying self-abasement. When somebody tells you to go and eat the humble pie these days, it simply means that you exhibit some prideful character and you need to humble yourself.
We all need to humble ourselves. Pride is not a character that exalts anybody rather it destroys. To some extent though, this should be our story too. We should reflect on our hearts and ask the Lord to give us a heart of humility. We should ask the Lord for a change of heart as such is a humble heart that the Lord exalts. Before Jacob was able to return to his homeland to face his twin brother Saul, the Lord had to work on his heart for twenty-one years under his uncle Laban. Jacob had learnt so much life lessons including that of humility that it was easier for him to humble himself when faced with his twin brother Esau. Forgiveness is not always easy most especially when you have to forgive yourself. It may be easy to forgive others when you do not see them every day but you cannot run away from yourself and this makes it harder. But however hard this is for you, you have to let bygone be bygone and you have to embrace God’s love in order to move forward.
We have all been through those moments when you wish you hadn’t said that or you hadn’t done that and it may be difficult to move forward from the mistakes we have made. In those moments when you are finding it difficult to let go of the shame you have caused, you may need to turn to God for help, comfort and consolation because your mistakes are all part o your learning curve in life.
I watched a Christian leader recently recounted his sins to some of the people he leads. With his head bowed and his voice shaken over what he thinks is an unforgivable offence, he was finding it difficult to come to terms with what he had done wrong. At the end of his confession was a piece of information even more shocking, he was going to step down from his position as a leader and he had already told the church council about it. I am who God says I am. I am God’s special child. I am a treasure in heaven. I am God’s beloved. I am perfect in His eyes. Believe it or not but these declarations are true. These are the way God feels about you. These are the things God says about you and these biblical declarations are what you should regularly declare over yourself. They will help you stay in the course of your true identity in God. They will help bring your mind back to God, build up your faith in God and align you with your real identity in God.
These Biblical declarations are like those daily doses of vitamins you need to stay healthy in life. They require nothing but your daily commitment to shifting your focus from distractions of this world, setting your mind on God’s word and speaking over yourself what God says about you in order for you to achieve all the things your heart ever desires.
A failure to do this is really setting yourself up for the world to call or label you with who you are not. So why not have a moment with Christ today and speak the following declarations over yourself so your world can change for good? Continue reading “20 Biblical Declarations of Who God Says I am”
Those were his words to me. This person who is like a father to me. This person I look up to and glean wisdom from regularly. He was disappointed in me for making a mistake. Those words broke my heart. They hung over my head for weeks! I tried to make amends for my mistake but he wouldn’t accept my apology. Oh! I was disappointed. So disappointed that my heart hurt so badly.
He was not the kind of person I would ever want to disappoint in any way. He was not the kind of person I expected would ever say such a thing to me either. Not now and not ever. Having lost my father at the age of five, I looked up to him as a father. He mentored me in some areas of my life and then I blew it. I expected a lot from him just as he expected more from me. I expected some grace and some care from him but his words said otherwise. Continue reading “8 Days Biblical Declarations for You When Feeling Disappointed”
Criticism! You are probably wondering, What has it got to do with me?
As Christians, it has everything to do with our character. We do it more often sometimes than unbelievers but we are not called to criticise one another, we are called to correct in love. It may be easy to get caught up in the act of criticism but Jesus said: “Judge not, that you be not judged” (Matthew 7:1). When we criticise others for what they have done wrong, we get criticised in turn. This should not be our world. Christians are not called to criticise fellow Christians neither are we called to judge the world. We are called to correct in love.
When you criticise others harshly, it may send them to tears, it may make them feel sad and they may feel little about themselves. This does not promote the image of Christ and it does not show the love of God. But when we correct in love, then we would be doing our heavenly father’s will. We would have spread His love to the human’s heart and we would have helped the other person to draw a little bit closer to God. My flesh may burn with desires.
My stomach may churn with hunger.
My throat may thirst for water.
My eyes may lust for the world.
Lord, let your word prevail in me.
My past will not dictate my future.
My present life is unfolding with God’s features.
My future is in alignment with God’s plans and purpose for me.
Only God’s word will prevail over me. Continue reading “Lord, Let Your Word Prevail In Me”
Feeling abandoned? Jesus did too!
At the point of great persecution, Jesus was abandoned and betrayed by those closest to him. One of his closest disciples betrayed him. One of his best allies denied ever knowing him. The other ten disciples fled from the scene without any trace. And those followers? they were nowhere to be found!
Jesus the saviour, Emmanuel the healer, the comforter trapped in the human body yet free in his mind, burned in his flesh with pain and wounded in his heart by betrayal and abandonment! How could he have been so betrayed by those closest to him? Where did he do wrong?

Jesus Christ was condemned for your sake.
It is one of the horrible incidents anybody could ever experience in life. But Jesus Christ endured it so that you can have victory when you go through it in life. He was a righteous man who endured condemnation to death on the cross (1 Peter 3:18). He had all the power and authority to stop injustice being done to him but he didn’t react nor did he respond to any of it. Instead, he submitted himself willingly to abuse, insults, hurt, pain, rejection, and condemnation from people.
It may surprise you to know that the same people who praised him with shouts of Hosanna deserted him and mocked him on the cross. He didn’t do it all in vain however, he did it for a reason. He did it for you and me so that we can have victory when we experience condemnation in many areas of our lives. This should give you solace when feeling condemned, rejected and hurt by people. This realisation helped me a while back when I was condemned, rejected and eventually thrown out of a community. Continue reading “7 Biblical Declarations For You When Feeling Condemned by People”
Nobody is above tests in life. We all must go through it.
In fact, you would have written different tests in school throughout your childhood and all the way through to the university level in your adolescent. There is always one test or the other to write in order to progress from one class to another and the end result usually amounts to some level of academics achievement.
Your Life is not dissimilar to your educational experience. It is in different stages and it comes with different tests. In order to progress from one stage to another, there are different tests to write and those you must pass them. This is just the way God created the human being life cycle.
These tests are usually in the form of trials and tribulations. They often come unexpectedly and if you are unaware of them and unprepared for them, they will catch you off guard and you may fail them. When you fail these tests in your life, you will remain in one life cycle not moving forward, not achieving anything, not finding fulfilment nor purpose until you pass your tests.
You need to pass your life tests in order to progress to your next level in life. Continue reading “3 Things In Life God Uses to Test You.”
I had a panic attack recently and it gave me an insight into what most people who suffer from anxiety, fear of the future and Monday blues go through. I didn’t know what was happening to me at the time but it felt like my mind was going to pop right out of my chest. My chest was tight and I had very little strength in my body. My mind was numb and my brain was hurting badly. I thought I was going to run mad. I wanted to get through to the people around me but nobody picked up their calls.
