There are moments in life when the struggle gets real and a Christian finds himself or herself in an identity crisis. Those are moments when you are discontented with life. This is the time when you wish you had somebody else’s privileges, gifting or abilities otherwise things would have been different for you. These are moments when you may begin to compare your failures with somebody else’s achievements. Those are times when you may look in the mirror but you wish you were as beautiful as that other person or you wish you had the same lifestyle as that of the other human being. Those are times when life may seem unfair otherwise you would have the same beauty as that of Queen Esther, or you would have the courage as that of Joshua the son of Nun, the bravery of Naomi who lost everything abroad yet returned home to face her fate in the God of Israel, the faith of Daniel who stood in faith even in the face or adversity or the lifestyle of King Solomon who was the wealthiest man on earth. Congratulations you are born anew. The Christian journey is exciting but there are times when you may need to affirm your identity in Christ in order to win the battle ahead (Mathew 4:1-11). Though you have a new identity in the Kingdom of God through Christ Jesus, the prince of darkness will not relent in trying to steal from you, kill treasures within and destroy wherever he gains access. You need to imprint on your heart that you no longer belong to the world but you belong to the Kingdom of God. You no longer belong to darkness, you are now a child of light (1 Thessalonians 5:5). The race of life set before you (Hebrews 12:1) may sometimes get overwhelming and the enemy may come trying to steal treasures within (John 10:10), all you need is to reach out to the word of God and affirm your identity. We all encounter difficult people every now and then but how do we deal with them as children of God? The Bible says that “You are the child of light and that makes you the light of the world. You must arise and shine because you carry the light of God on the inside of you. Therefore, whenever you engage with difficult people, be really patient. Do not repay them back by being equally difficult because if you do so, you reduce yourself to their level and you dim the light in you. Every time you repay evil with good, you allow the light of God in you to shine in the midst of darkness.
Jesus was and still is the light of the world (John 9:5). Just as he allowed his light to shine for the world to see, he wants you to follow in his footsteps. You must give room for your light to shine in the world. Don’t repay evil with evil but repay evil with good. If somebody shouts you down, do not shout them down no matter how shaken you may have been. If somebody humiliates you, be humble and apologise even if you are not in the wrong. If somebody causes you any harm, pray for them that they may encounter the light of God through you.
I heard a story of a Christian sister who was ambushed by a thief in the night. She was going home from church and she was suddenly waylaid by an armed robber. With a gun on her head, she was asked to give up her wallet. She in turn gently handed over her bag to the armed robber and begged him not to kill her. She explained to him that she was just coming from church and she would like to tell him that Jesus loves him. She spoke a bit further with the robber and somehow he listened. She invited him to her church the next Sunday and to her surprise, he turned up in church and he gave his life to Christ. This is a great example of a Christian repaying evil with good.
You are a child of God and all children of God are lights in the world. You carry the light of life on the inside of you because you believe in Jesus (John 8:12). You have been adopted by God through Jesus Christ into God’s wonderful family, therefore you must shine like the rest of God’s children. Being the light in the world is not meant only for a few of God’s children, every one of God’s children must shine for the world to see. It is what God desires. It is what God wants to see on earth. It is what makes him happy. That every one of his children is being lights for others in the darkness. That every one of his children is not hiding but they are choosing to stand out in darkness so that his name can be glorified.
It is what Jesus your big brother did. He came to the world to show the way. He shone his lights in darkness and made ways where there was none. Jesus your big brother would be so proud of you if you step into his shoes and choose to follow in his footsteps by being the light for others in darkness.
Jesus said you are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14). Anybody who believes in Jesus Christ and chooses to follow him gets adopted into the family of God who is the creator of lights and the father of light. There is no darkness in God. He is light and He is full of light. The moment you step into his family, he welcomes you into his arms and wraps you up with his light. You are thence no longer in darkness but in the light of God. You are the adopted child of God who now lives in the light. Because you believe in Jesus and you follow in his footsteps, you have become the child of light through Jesus Christ and you carry the light of life on the inside of you. You are in every sense a part and parcel of the family of light. So forget about the past, leave darkness behind and embrace your new life in the light. You can no longer harbour or hide in darkness. You must be engulfed in the light and shine from the inside out for the world to see.
God is your light, His word is a light unto your feet and a lamp unto your path (Psalm 119:105). So let us bring it all together; you are the light of the world because you have the light of God on the inside of you and you are surrounded by the light of God on a daily basis. Let your light so shine just as Christ commanded you. “Arise, shine; for your light has come, And the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. Isaiah 60:1
Make a Declaration of Faith
I declare the light of God rises upon me, I will arise and shine and the glory of the Lord shall be seen upon me. I declare that my heart is flooded with the light of God so that I can understand the confident hope he has given to me whom he has called–his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I declare the light of God floods my heart and my eyes are opened to see good, pleasant and suitable solutions to my situations. This is my declaration
Daily Bible Meditation
Ephesians 1:18, Psalm 119:105, Isaiah 60:1, John 8:12, 2 Corinthians 4:4, 2 Corinthians 4:6, Genesis 1
You are the light of the world . Arise and shine . You are a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden. You must arise and shine. You have been filled with the light of life (John 8:12). You must arise and shine. God has deposited his light in you, let it shine. Open your eyes and see the light of God all around you. See the light God has provided for you, see the light God has covered you with (2 Corinthians 4:4, 2 Corinthians 4:6, Genesis 1), arise and shine in that light. You are no longer in darkness, you have been called into God’s marvellous light (1 Peter 2:9). You are no longer of the world, you belong to the Lord and he is light. It is time to arise from your slumber, arise from the past, arise from what has kept you bound. Arise and shine for your light have come and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.
Allow me to explain;
Please close your eyes for a minute and share with us what you can see with your eyes closed? Now open your eyes and share what you can see with your eyes open. How did you feel when you couldn’t see anything? uncomfortable? fearful? motionless? immobile? With your eyes closed still, can you imagine your world without the light? Can you imagine living in darkness? What would the world look like if we had to live in a complete and utter darkness? what would your life look like if you were blind and you cannot see what lies before you or what lies behind you? what would your life be like if you were not able to see what you are surrounded with nor are you able to move forward, backward or move around? can you imagine not been able to do anything? Can you imagine feeling incapacitated? feeling like you are capable of doing great things yet you are unable to do anything because you cannot see? Such is the intensity of captivity of darkness.
Darkness renders people useless. You want to do things but you cannot do anything. You want to see clearly but all you see are shadows of darkness. You want to move forward, to the right or to the left but you cannot even move an inch from where you are standing because of the thickness of darkness around you.
God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them
reflecting our nature Genesis 1:26 (MSG).
You are made in the image of God, to be like God, to reign like God reflecting his nature, to be responsible for every other living being on the earth, to speak goodness into existence, to bring creativity alive, to give life where death lies, to ring the truth where lies have become the second nature. You are made in the image of God to reflect his nature, to bring order into a chaotic world, to cast light upon a shadow and be the light in the darkness. You are created to make good and lovely things out of nothingness, to be creative and be imaginative, and you have been empowered to do all of these and more, by the same God who made you. Praise God. You are the salt of the earth! You have been cleansed through the blood of Jesus and preserved by God for a special assignment on earth. You have been named the life transformer and solution provider the world is waiting upon. Jesus said, ‘You are the salt of the earth’. There is no longer any confusion or objection surrounding your identity in God and in this world.
Jesus came to restore your identity and to clarify the son and daughter of whom you are. You are the child of God. An heir to the kingdom of heaven. Your identity is no longer in crisis but in Christ. He came to give you life, peace, hope and grace so that you may have life in abundance. You are no longer lost but you have been found. You are no longer blind but you can see. No longer under oppression but you can claim your freedom. You are no longer termed forsaken but you have a new name; the delight of the Lord. No longer frustrated but you can have peace, no longer confused but you can have clarity on who you are and to whom you belong. Jesus has calmed the storm of life and you can rest in his assurance.
You are the salt of the earth. Salt gives liveliness, piquancy, or pungency. It cures, it preserves. It’s a solution to many disasters. It gives taste to tasteless bland meals. It melts the snow and creates a firm grip on a slippery road. It heals bitter water. It adds interest or excitement to anything. Its misuse can cause a chaos, a disaster. But give salt to the person who knows it’s benefits and how to use it, and you can achieve your purpose, your goals. You can have victory where necessary.
In the course of fulfilling his purpose on earth, Jesus set the captives free from every bondage. He redeemed the chosen and the predestined from sin and death. He restored faith in the heart of men where it failed. He gave hope to the hopeless, help to the helpless, healing to the sick, comfort to the aggrieved. Before his death, he restored the dignity, the confidence and the identity of every child of God. He was the liveliness in every dull environment. He was the excitement that everybody travelled to see. He was the healer, the solution provider, the life transformer and he says you are the same.
Do you believe that you are the salt of the earth? or have you lost your savour as a child of God? But if the salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything but it is thrown out and trampled underfoot. Mathew 5:11. Have you been through condemnation, accusations, abuse or some form of torture? Have you been betrayed, tormented or persecuted? Have you lost your focus on Jesus? Are you lacking in confidence in God and in yourself? Are you going through an identity crisis? Do you know who you are in God and to whom you belong? Do you know your worth in the hands of the master and your assignment on earth? When in doubt about who you are, remind yourself of what Jesus said; He said, ‘You are the salt of the earth’.
Make a bold declaration of faith
I am the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13), I am well preserved, I am a preservative (Mark 9:49). My speech shall be graceful always, seasoned with salt to everyone that I might know how to answer everyone(Colossians 4:6). This is my declaration.
His word says that Jesus is the bright and morning star. His star drew people to him at an early age. His star brought him the most expensive and covetous gifts like a baby. His star spread the good news of the arrival of the saviour on earth as an infant. His star guided the three wise men to his birthplace. His star informed king Herod of the most powerful king on earth. His star is powerful.
Like Jesus, you also have a star. Your star can be an instrument in the hands of God. Your star can be instrumental to a great revival. Your star can accomplish a purpose to which it has been sent on the earth. Your star can be a guide to the blind and a direction to the lost.
Christ said you are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14). Your star should bring light to the world in the midst of the darkness. The Bible also says;
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, Because the Lord has anointed and commissioned me To bring good news to the humble and afflicted; He has sent me to bind up [the wounds of] the brokenhearted, To proclaim release [from confinement and condemnation] to the [physical and spiritual] captives And freedom to prisoners“ Isaiah 61:1
Christ fulfilled this scripture for all the children of God being the firstborn son of God (Colossians 1:15, Hebrews 1:6, Romans 8:29). This scripture was not only a commission for Jesus alone. This is a commission for every child of God. As a Christian, you are anointed to do all these things too.
You are anointed by the spirit that raised Jesus from the dead (Romans 8:11) to bring good news to the humble and the afflicted, to bind up the wounds of the brokenhearted, to proclaim a release to the captives and freedom to the prisoners. This is your star, this is your light that must shine for the world to see.
Make a conscious decision to be a star shining brightly on the path of humanity. Make a conscious decision to reach out to others, allow your star to shine brightly for the world to see as you focus on Jesus as the bright and morning star.
Make a declaration of faith
I declare his word that Christ is the bright and morning star. In him I live, in him, I breathe and in him, I have my being. Because Jesus is the light of the world. I am also a light of the world. I am a child of God. I am above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation. I am endowed with insight to be a light in the midst of the darkness. I will bring many to righteousness and my star shine brighter. This is my declaration.
I declare his word that Christ is the bright and morning star. He is my light and I am the light of the world. I will prove myself blameless and innocent before many. I will allow my light to shine brighter like the brightness of the expanse of heaven. I will chase first the kingdom of God and lead many to righteousness, and so my star will shine forever and ever. This is my declaration.
Acts 17:28, Revelation 22:16, John 8:12, Philippians 2:15, Galatians 3:26, Daniel 12:3
Do you know who you are in Christ? Can you honestly accept the truth in God’s word about your true identity? God knows who you are and He calls you what He sees not what the world sees in you. Your life can never remain the same again when you agree with what God says in his word about you. Why not try changing your words from saying, “I don’t think I can make it”, to “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. Continue reading “Declare Your Identity in Christ”
How can this be? How can you bring a baby into the world when the father has deserted you? How can you forgive those who hurt you when the memory grips you with pain every time you remember? How can you focus on new beginnings when you lack the strength to move forward from past experiences.
How can you reach out in faith to receive your healing when there is a history of such illness in the family? How can you let go of memories of shame and guilt when you knew better? How can you create something new when the old still drags on? The truth is, you cannot until the power of God comes over you.
““The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.” Luke 1:35
You cannot do it by yourself. You cannot do any of those new things you so desire to do without a supernatural help. You need the power of the Holy Spirit to come over you to help you. With the Holy Spirit, you can receive strength in replacement of your weaknesses. You can create something so powerful that no weapon of the enemy can withstand. You can move into your new beginnings and stay free of past hurts. You can do the impossible.
Perhaps you are struggling with un-forgiveness, letting go of the past hurts, pains and rejection; you might be struggling with receiving healing for your health because of doctor’s reports, you might be worried and anxious about tomorrow, cast your cares on God. Ask him for help and he will empower you with the Holy Spirit.
Make a declaration of faith
I declare the power of the highest will overshadow me to do the impossible. The spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is upon me, I am filled with life. I am clothed with power for love and for the sound mind. I am no longer weak to make the right decisions for my life but I am strengthened with power through the spirit of God in my inner man. I will do great things. I will know the truth concerning my situation, speak the truth and live in the truth. For the son of God has set me free and I am free indeed. I am free from the deceits and lies of the enemy. I will live right and do right all the days of my life. This is my declaration.
I declare the power of the highest will overshadow me to do the impossible. I am a carrier of good news not bad news. I am empowered for joy and peace shall reign in my life. I have the power of God over weaknesses in every area of my life and I am strengthened. I have the power to be a witness to Christ throughout the world. I am a carrier of good news, I will spread the good news of Christ throughout the world. This is my declaration.
