Finding Peace in the Storms

This is the promise of God to all his children concerning peace;”When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you”(Isaiah 43:2). The image that comes to mind meditating on this scripture is that of an individual crossing over a deep water and they are afraid of being swept away but there is someone stronger than them walking side by side to them and urging them to carry on crossing because he is with them and they have nothing to be afraid of. This is exactly what the peace of God is when you submit your fears and anxieties to him. You have nothing to be afraid of because God is with you, gently guiding you and directing you on the right path.

When the three Hebrew boys Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were going to be thrown in the fire, they did not go ballistic instead they surrendered their fears to God and they exchanged their fears for God’s peace; “The God whom we serve will deliver us from you king…” and that God delivered them. He turned the burning fire into an air condition for them. Instead of them to be burning they were having a swell time with the Lord. This is what God means when he said in his word; When you go through fire it will not burn you for I am with you.

It is often said that a life without Christ is full of crisis. Life will always happen. Trials and tribulations will always come. There are times when life may seem chaotic and all you want to do is to find some peace and quietness. During such moment, I sometimes shut myself away from the world and I seek for peace in a retreat centre,  a hotel room away from home on a holiday, my room at home away from everybody else or even a quiet space at work. Those times away from the noise and the hullabaloo of the world sometimes help to rejuvenate my mind, body and spirit, but the truth is, such peace often only last but for a moment.

However, there is a peace that lasts a lifetime and it is often found in Jesus Christ. This peace that Christ gives helps us during the storms of life. This peace that Christ gives is in abundance and it adds no sorrow to us. Christ’s peace gives hope and helps us to stay afloat. Those who accept peace through Christ will always ride the tempestuous storm effortlessly. No matter how strong or how weak you are, no matter how talented or whether not so talented you may be, no matter how rich or how poor you may be, unless you accept and embrace the peace Christ gives in the storms, you will end up cracked open and broken in the storm.

During trials, some people will say, I am just trying to keep my head above waters”. As a follower of Christ, you need not try to keep your head above waters; through Christ you can confidently swim through deep waters of life. God said, “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you“.(Isaiah 43:2).

Peace is a gift from God and it is readily available for you. You only need to accept Christ. Accept his promises. Accept the peace he came to give the world. Speak out loud the following Bible declarations until your faith has been made stronger and you will see the word of God come alive for you in Jesus name.

Make a bold declaration of faith

Biblical Confessions for My Finances – Kenneth Copeland Ministries

God cares about your finances! Sound surprising? Did you know that there are more than 2,000 verses in the Bible that deal with financial issues like money, greed, stewardship, debt, hard work, contentment, provision, investments and more? Just as with anything else, you should approach your finances in faith, believing that your heavenly Father will be true to His Word. And part of approaching your finances in faith involves the way you think and speak about them. If you constantly focus on your lack of money, complain about your financial outlook, and doubt that God will be faithful to His Word, then you will receive exactly what you expect. However, if instead, you proclaim God’s goodness, thank Him for His provision and expect Him to be faithful to His Word, you will receive the provision from Him that you expect.

But I have no idea what to say about my finances, you might think.

Well, we’ve got you covered. Here are four biblically based mini confessions to speak over your financial life.

More Than Enough
“God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. As the Scriptures say, ‘They share freely and give generously to the poor. Their good deeds will be remembered forever.’” –2 Corinthians 9:8-9

Confession: God, I thank You that You generously provide everything I need. In fact, I thank You that according to Your Word, I have more than enough so that I can share my extra with the those in need. And every time this occurs, I’ll remember and proclaim Your faithfulness.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Every Need Covered
“My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” –Philippians 4:19, KJV

Confession: Lord, You know the needs I have even better than I do. I trust You with every part of my life, including my finances. I stand in faith for Your Word to come to pass that all my needs are met according to Your riches in glory by Christ Jesus. And I thank You for it!
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Provision by His Power
“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” –Matthew 6:25-33

Confession: Heavenly Father, I know You care for me. I know You love me. Your Word tells me that I am more valuable to You than the birds or the wildflowers. I trust and focus on that Word and You. You know the needs that I have for basic necessities, and I trust that You are meeting those needs right now. I will continue to thank You that those needs are met and that You will provide for me and my family every day of our lives.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Overcoming Debt
“Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbour, you will fulfil the requirements of God’s law.” –Romans 13:8

Confession: Lord, I stand in faith for all my debts to be paid in full so that I may owe nothing except to love others. I understand that I cannot accomplish that on my own, but I know You can make that possible. And I trust You to do it.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Right now, begin proclaiming the Lord’s provision in your life. Whether you need a new job, a boost in your income, your debts paid off or some other need met, begin proclaiming the faithfulness and trustworthiness of the Lord and His Word. And when your financial miracle occurs, be sure to share it with us by email, on Facebook or on the Believers’ Academy forum. We want to celebrate God’s faithfulness with you!

Powerful Biblical Prayer of Declarations to Speak Over Your Life

There is so much power in the words we speak. What we say today creates our tomorrow. If we want a healthy and prosperous future, then we need to use wisdom and speak words that bring positive results. Our future depends on it.

To declare means:

• To make known formally or officially
• To state emphatically or authoritatively; affirm.
• To reveal or make manifest; show.
God spoke (declared) all things into existence. Since we are created in His image He has given us the authority and the power to declare over our own lives. You might be declaring over your life without even knowing it. Have you ever said, “I hate my life,” or “My life sucks,” or “I’m so fat and ugly.” These are negative declarations that will bring negative results into your life. I know, I’ve been there. I’ve learned that what I say or what I think brings what I am focusing on into my life. So, now I declare only positive words over my life. I am beginning to see the changes!

Scripture tells us, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17 NKJ) Scripture is a powerful tool we should use to declare over our lives.

I love to pray Psalm 91 over me. I substitute “you or your” with “I, me, and my,” as follows:
1.
Psalm 91
Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
This I declare about the LORD:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.
For he will rescue me from every trap
and protect me from deadly diseases.
He will cover me with his feathers.
He will shelter me with his wings.
His faithful promises are my armour and protection.
I will not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
nor the arrow that flies in the day.
I will not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
Though a thousand fall at my side,
though ten thousand are dying around me,
these evils will not touch me.
Just open my eyes,
and I will see how the wicked are punished.
If I make the LORD my refuge,
if I make the Most High my shelter,
no evil will conquer me;
no plague will come near my home.
For he will order his angels
to protect me wherever I go.
They will hold me up with their hands
so I won’t even hurt my foot on a stone.
I will trample upon lions and cobras;
I will crush fierce lions and serpents under my feet!
The LORD says, “I will rescue those who love me.
I will protect those who trust in my name.
When they call on me, I will answer;
I will be with them in trouble.
I will rescue and honor them.
I will reward them with a long life
and give them my salvation.” (NLT)
……………………………………………………………………..
2.
I also do the same for Ephesians 1:17-23 and Ephesians 3:14-21.

Ephesians 1:17-23
…asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give me spiritual wisdom and insight so that I might grow in the knowledge of God. I pray that my heart will be flooded with light so that I can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.

I also pray that I will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.
……………………………………………………………………..
3.
Ephesians 3:14-21
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower me with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in my heart as I trust in him. My roots will grow down into God’s love and keep me strong. And may I have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May I experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then I will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within me, to accomplish infinitely more than I might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.

Seeking the Peace of Mind

Everybody wants the peace of mind but nobody is actively seeking this peace. With headlines filled with terrorist news and breaking news that fuels fear in the heart of mind leading to aggravations, financial downturn affecting people’s finances enslaving them to money making machines, public unrest and political disorder creating worries in homes that leads to domestic assault, gun crimes and knife crimes creating false confidence in the heart of the youth; nobody seems to know the time to seek for the peace of mind.

Jesus Christ came to the world to give us peace; violence, injustice, terrorism, wars and threats must not steal our peace in Christ. We must seek and find this peace, we must pursue peace with all men (Hebrews 12:14). When Jesus encountered the con men who tried to trick him into causing a political unrest by asking him whether they should pay taxes, he didn’t get into an argument with them but with wisdom he replied; give Cesar what belongs to Cesar and give to God what belongs to God (Mark 12:13-17).

At another time he encountered the taxman, he could have refused to pay taxes as a citizen of the land, instead, he instructed Peter to pay the taxes. Should Jesus have refused to pay the tax man, trouble might have ensued. Instead, Jesus avoided trouble and as a result, peace reigned (Matthew 17:24-27). Likewise, Christ-followers must follow in his footsteps and replicate his character in practical ways that will create peace in the world.

In the midst of the storm, Jesus demonstrated how to have peace to his disciples (Matthew 8:24) – he remained calm and he rebuked the storm. Christians must learn from him and follow in his stead – remain calm in the face of trouble and rebuke the storm. When I had troubles in my relationships, I went back to God and I rebuked the storms rocking my relationships in the name of Jesus and God was faithful to honour my prayer requests.

Should you be seeking the peace of mind in your life right now, speak out loud the following Bible declarations and let the word of God take root in your life that will bring about the peace you require in your heart.

16 Bible Declarations to Help New Christians Develop the “Goodness” Christian Character

It may not come naturally for new believers to develop and express the goodness Christian character. Not in the world where evil and wickedness is prevalent with corruption, dishonesty, indecency, cruelty, immorality and the likes anyway. To embrace this benevolence would mean going against the norm and choosing to conform to the nature of Jesus Christ of Nazareth who went about doing good healing all who were oppressed by the devil(Acts 10:38).

Though you may not have the power of God to heal the sick and deliver the demon possessed just yet, you can still do great things for God should you desire to do so. Thankfully, God has enabled you to be like him in knowing good and evil (Genesis 3:22) and this is the start of it all. Also you can be empowered through the power in the spoken word of God declared over your life. You too can become a vessel of honor in God’s hands in this age of dishonour and loss. Should you desire this gift, all you have to do is ask and it will be given to you.

Just like Mother Teresa was a chosen vessel in God’s hands in her lifetime. She chose to obey her calling as a child of God doing good for the underprivileged through her humanitarian and charitable work. You too have been chosen to become a child of God and Christ follower, it is therefore your personal Christian responsibility to go about doing good unto others. This is the nature of Christ and it must flow easily from you to the world irrespective of any environment you find yourself. It is that mark of Christ that distinguishes his followers from the world and you must renew your mind from this world’s normalcy so that you can be conformed to the image of Christ.

Doing good for others surely has its reward though its reward must not be your motivation but to fulfil the will of him that sent you in being the light of the world (Matthew 5:14). I can never forget my return from climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of Compassion UK in January 2017. I didn’t expect anything in return but upon my return from the trip, I was pleasantly surprised to have read from local newspapers who had carried the news about the fundraising project. It did not stop there but we went on to have an interview about it all on Jesus House radio. When I extended myself a little bit to help others, its news spread across board.

God is ready and willing to give you this good and perfect gift that only comes from him. It is a fruit of the Holy Spirit who dwells in you and it is a good gift that brings blessings and rests for your soul (Jeremiah 6:16). If by any chance you desire fame at all, do good. Should you want anybody to take you seriously and treat you with respect, do good. The following Bible declarations can help propel you into a place of prayer where you are able to ask and receive this goodness of the Lord.

Overcome Strife

Strife is a sin. It always attracts fights, arguments, misunderstandings and one conflict or the other. You may not have started the fight but somehow you find yourself in the midst of it. Perhaps you are just trying to assert yourself but somehow your conversations turn into arguments. Your intentions may have been misunderstood and one way or the other, conflicts ensued. All these are the works of the spirit of strife. If you have ever found yourself constantly defending yourself, trying to make amends to what should not have taken place in the first place, you really need God’s intervention for the spirit of strife may have been at work.

God is a God of peace and his children must follow in his stead – follow peace with all men (Romans 12:18). It does not matter who is at fault, God wants you to be at peace. He says when “Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife, and in striking each other with wicked fists. You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high” (Isaiah 58:4). Your fast must not end in violence or strife. You must find a way to attract peace to your life.

There was a story of an individual who went to evangelise and he got into an argument with other religious believers. The argument got so big that the policemen got involved. This individual then turned on the police officers with more argument and he was eventually taken into custody. This should not be the case for believers for God has not made us judges over others (Matthew 7:1), instead, he commands individuals to carry their cross and follow Jesus (Matthew 16:24).

It is very possible that you desire to overcome strife and that is why you are reading this devotional, God can deliver you completely from strife and give you perfect peace that comes from him. When you speak out loud the following Bible Declarations every day in humility with prayers, God will come and bring to pass his word in your life. He will renew your mind until your life is completely transformed and you have a new world in Christ Jesus.

1.
I thank you, God, for all the people you surround me with. I thank you for my family, friends, companions, colleagues and acquaintances alike. I know it is your will that no man should be alone (Genesis 2:18) and you set the lonely in families and among people (Psalm 68:6).
……………………………………………………………………..
2.
I acknowledge you as the God of peace who dwells among peaceful relationships. With your help and grace I know I can have peaceful relationships with everybody in my life (Romans 1:28-29).
……………………………………………………………………..
3.
I declare I am filled with godly wisdom through the spirit of Christ that dwells in my heart. Henceforth, I walk in wisdom. I will no longer be involved in foolish arguments, contentions and strife of any kind as these are unprofitable and vain before the eyes of God and to all men (Titus 3:9).
……………………………………………………………………..
4.
With God’s help, I pursue things that have God’s approval and I stay away from lusts of the flesh such as foolish and stupid arguments. I declare that henceforth, I will pursue faith, love, and peace together with those who worship the Lord with a pure heart (2 Timothy 2:22-23).
……………………………………………………………………..
5.
Today I choose wisdom above foolishness, I will stay away from strife at all times and honor shall be my reward (Proverbs 20:3).
……………………………………………………………………..
6.
Today I receive the revelatory power of God to recognize and to stop strife of any kind before it breaks out in any situations and circumstances (Proverbs 17:14).

7.
God has not made me a fool, therefore with his power that lives on the inside of me, I declare my freedom from the spirit of strife (Proverbs 20:3).
……………………………………………………………………..
8.
I know anybody who works in the flesh manifests strife and cannot inherit the kingdom of God. Today I submit myself to the spirit of God and I will begin to walk in the spirit at all times bearing in mind my reward is righteousness,  peace, and joy in the holy spirit shall be mine(Galatians 5:19-21).
……………………………………………………………………..
9.
I declare my tongue shall no longer bring strife but peace to all men and my mouth shall no longer invite fights (Proverbs 18:6-7).
……………………………………………………………………..
10.
Since I carry the spirit of God in my heart and his spirit gives wisdom to those who asks for it, today I ask for wisdom to deal with negative issues arising and I know that with God’s help, I will not fall into traps with foolishness and stupid arguments that cause quarrels (2 Timothy 2:23).

Make Peace With All Men

The Christian life is a spiritual journey of total surrender to God. When He said; “pursue peace with all men (Hebrews 12:14)”, he meant, in spite of your views, opinions or perspectives of that situation, approach every situation with peace in mind. Do not think about your interest rather think about the best way to advance the kingdom of God. No matter how difficult the situation is, be the light, be the salt, be the solution and bring peace with you. This, in essence, means let go of your ego, make necessary sacrifices at every opportunity, swallow your pride and ride on God’s wings of justice.

Not in my wildest dream would I ever thought I would offend a friend so much so that she would tell me she no longer wants to be friends with me. But it happened. That situation broke me. I went home for days, cried and then prayed about it all. But I didn’t stop there, I chose to forgive the hurt my friend had caused me. Even though she chose not to be my friend anymore, I chose to make myself available to her as a friend. I continued to be myself around her and I offered to help whenever needed. Thankfully the strain between us was lifted.

One of the greatest ways to shut down the enemies is by offering peace when they expect a fight back. When the enemy accuses you and tries to attack your personality, pray for them. Don’t fight back. Don’t try to explain yourself. Don’t try to justify your actions. Sincerely apologise and take your case to God. He is the one who will fight your battle for you, let him do it. This is what it means to pursue peace with all men; to live a life of selflessness, to not consider your own feelings nor remain adamant on your rights, to render an apology first even when you are right and the other person refuses to apologise.

When you have a valid cause of complaint and you are feeling justified by your actions, put aside your rightness and win that battle with humility and your obedience to God’s commandment will earn you a great reward; the Bible says ” Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the children of God” (Matthew 5:9). When you make peace with others your priority, you are blessed and you shall be called a child of God. But when you respond word for word, when you slide the issue under the carpet for a revenge or when you start to keep malice with the offender, you are not being a child of God, instead, you are putting yourself up for strife, anger or violence.

A child of God must respond to offence exceptionally. Jesus Christ said; “Therefore if you are offering your gift at the altar and remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar. First, go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift“(Matthew 5:23-24). Prayer may be the master key to talking to God, forgiveness may be key to God in answering prayers but making your peace with others is definitely the key to God listening to your prayers.

Perhaps you are struggling with making peace with others, the following Bible Declarations have been compiled to help you. May the spoken word of God renew your mind to a state of peace even as you meditate on the word, speak it into existence and pray it through into your life in Jesus name.

1.
I bless God for the peace that comes only from him. Without Christ, in our lives, there will be no peace in the world. I declare that I am a peacemaker through the prince of peace who enables me to become one.
……………………………………………………………………..
2.
I am a child of God. I am a peacemaker. Through Jesus Christ, I express peace unto others at all times. The Prince of Peace is my lord and saviour. He enables me to be at peace with all men. He empowers me to proclaim peace to all men and he equips me with his peace that passes all understanding.
……………………………………………………………………..
3.
I bring peace to the world around me. Even in the midst of problems, I will do the works of God in bringing peace to all men as he commanded.
……………………………………………………………………..
4.
I am a peacemaker in the world through Christ who paid the price for my peace (Isaiah 53:5).
……………………………………………………………………..
5.
Today I choose peace over problems. I will follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. I will pursue and live in peace with all men. I will make every effort to live in holiness without which no one can see God. And henceforth I shall be called a son of God (Isaiah 9:6, 1 Peter 3:11, Colossians 3:15, Matthew 5:9, Hebrews 12:14).
……………………………………………………………………..
6.
As far as God gives me grace, I will live at peace with everyone not taking revenge where I have been hurt but surrendering all to God and allowing him to repay all as he deems fit. Henceforth, I will make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification of others. I will not repay anyone evil for evil. I will be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone with the help of God who lives sovereign over all (Romans 12:17-21, Romans 14:19)

Make Peace With God

Sometimes we hold God responsible for bad things that happen to us. We accuse him of neglecting us during difficulties. We lose our peace with God whilst demanding to know why he did not prevent that incident from happening. We blame him and we hold out on him. We turn our back on the Prince of Peace and we hold grudges with the same God who is able to turn that situation around. How then can we be healed, delivered and forgiven if we keep the doors of our hearts shut against the Prince of peace? How can he right the wrongs if we keep up the walls of our heart and sealed against his love. How can we experience his love if we keep hating, keep running, keep despising the author of peace?

Have you ever seen a product fighting its maker? It’s very unheard of. Have you ever seen a maker who is not in love with or is not proud of his creation? This is very unlikely. Whilst we fail to see what we did wrong, God is busy trying to right the wrong in our lives. Whilst we crumble under the consequences of our actions, God is stretching out his arms of comfort, ready to console us and make things better. When we fail to own up to our mistakes and we run away from our responsibilities, God is patiently waiting for us to run to him in repentance.

God is the author of peace, not confusion. You need to stop blaming God for your misfortunes. Stop blaming God for the wars and sicknesses of this world so that your peace may abound. God has your best interest at heart and he will never do anything to harm you. He loves the world so much so that he sent his son Jesus Christ to die for its sins (John 3:16). He has not stopped loving the world. He created you in your mother’s womb and he is in love with you. He is willing to right every wrong that was done to you. He is the maker of man and he desires to have peace with all mankind, so make your peace with him.

Whatever you have gone through or may be going through is not God’s intention for you. Rather God’s thoughts and intentions towards you are that of peace and not of evil, to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). If you have lost your peace in the storms of life, do not blame God for it. Instead, seek the peace of mind that only he can give and your peace will be restored. You will have peace at home and you will have peace with others around you. Whatever negative situation you are going through today is not of God. He is willing to turn it around for your good and use it for his glory, you only need to make your peace with God. No matter the grudges you hold against God, it will never change his love for you. Nothing can separate you from the love of God, not even trouble or calamity, persecution, or hunger, or destitution, or danger, nor when you are threatened with death (Romans 8:31-39).

One of the best experience of my life was when I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with nineteen others in January 2017. Yet before that experience was a period of searching for something significant in my life and though I came back down from the mountain with excitement, that longing for fulfilment lingered until I surrendered and made my peace with God. Could you be a soul searching for significance like I was? Could you be in a phase of searching for the meaning of life whilst chasing after the wind? You may need to go back to the prince of peace (Isa. 9:6) for in him lies that fulfilment for life. You may have heard the phrase, a life without Christ is full of crisis. Jesus Christ is He who came to give us peace. He sacrificed himself to be made peace between man and God, don’t let his sacrifice over you go to waste. Make your peace with God today.
Mount Kilimanjaro trek with Compassion UK

Make a claim for the peace of God in your life. Examine your heart in repentance, ask for forgiveness of sins, make a total commitment in surrender to God and make your peace with God during this lent season. ‘Tis a season to let go of all hurts and hates and embrace all hearts in peace, unity, and harmony after all.

The following Bible Declarations have been compiled to help those who may be struggling to make peace with God. May the spoken word of God renew your mind to a state of peace even as you meditate on the word, speak it into existence and pray it through into your life in Jesus name.
