Are you being the light in your sphere of influence? Jesus said, “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:1). I heard a story of a church worker who summoned the courage to politely correct her boss at work not to swear in the name of Jesus anymore. The rest of her Christian co-worker reprimanded her for doing such a foolish thing. She also thought she was going to be fired after all the talks. To her surprise, she got an apology email from the boss and he also promised not to swear in the name of Jesus in the office anymore. The rest is history after that incident.
This Christ follower is an example of what it means to be the light in her office. She effected a positive change in an environment that could have become unbearable and toxic to other staff members and she effect a change of heart that led to repentance in her boss. This is exactly what Christians are meant to do. To be like Christ in our thinking pattern, words and in action wherever we find ourselves.
Somebody once said that what you tolerate, you will endure and it will soon control your life. When you fold your hands in an environment where darkness exists, you will endure what it brings your way and it will soon control your life. But when you activate your light in the dark, darkness disappears and everybody will live in the light. When you effect a positive change in your sphere of influence, God is glorified and the name of Jesus is spread further afield.
I don’t know about you but I have seen enough darkness existing in our world and I would like to see a change. Youths are killing each other. Adults have become vultures who prey on the vulnerable. The innocents are being convicted of sins they have not committed. Rulers of nations no longer care about the citizens of their states but instead they rule with self centeredness, they rule for what they can get out the common purse rather than for the common goals.
Where has the light of life gone? Why are families taking one another to court and siblings are turning against one another? Light has been snuffed out of homes causing a sudden widespread of domestic violence in our homes. Husbands are killing their wives physically and emotionally and wives are cheating on their husbands. The children are growing old to become unruly, insubordinate and insubmissive. There is chaos and unrest in the world.
Yet in the midst of it all Christ has called his followers to be the light of the world. Christ himself is the light of the world through whom those who believes in him have been empowered with the light of life. Christians are in effect also the light of the world and Christ has asked us to turn on the lights so that darkness can flee. Therefore, Christians (You and I) be like Christ. Think like Christ, talk and walk like Christ and act like Christ in this world. Be the light where ever you find yourself. Be the light in the midst of darkness. You must wake up from your slumber, shake away fear and discouragement, be strong and courageous and be the light in the dark world. Perhaps you are finding it difficult to reach out for the light switch in you, the following sets of declarations will help turn on the light and give you the courage to be the light in the world.

Monday Declaration
I declare I am the light of the world and I give light where there is darkness in my environment. I am a city set on the hill and I shall not be hidden. I believe in Christ and I am enabled with the light of life (Matthew 5:14, John 8:12)
Tuesday Declaration
I declare God’s light will shine through me today and I will effect positive change in my sphere of influence. God’s word will come alive in me and I will win in the world for Christ to be glorified on earth. Through me the world will become a better place . ( 2 Timothy 2:15)
Wednesday Declaration
I declare my path is as the shinning light, that shines more and more unto the perfect day (Proverbs 4:18)
Thursday Declaration
I declare I have been made righteous through Christ who is my light. Christ causes my light to shine for the world to see and darkness will not overcome it. I am full of light and I will shine brighter for the world to see (John 8:12, John 1:5)
Friday Declaration
The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 127:1
Saturday Declaration
I declare and I believe that Jesus is my Light. Through him I have become a child of the light (John 12:35-37). Henceforth people shall call me a child of God.
Sunday Declaration
I declare my praises to the Lord who called me out of darkness and who plants my feet in his marvellous light. Henceforth, I believe I am specially chosen by God. I am a royal priesthood to the Lord. I am holy. I am a nation. I am God’s special possession. I am a child of God ( 1 Peter 2:9)
