So, how does one recover from this identity crisis?
First, we declare our identity in Christ to reveal who we are in God and to whom we belong. You speak biblical truths over yourself to renew your mind until you hear them in your spirit and believe them. Then your life will glorify God and a life without Christ in crisis will accept Jesus Christ as their Saviour. They will engage in this battlefield of the mind with the word and see the prince of this world flee.
Secondly, we remind ourselves of what God did for us to overcome an identity crisis from the enemy. He declared our identity in Him through the death of His son Jesus Christ. Now we can boldly say, that we are His, the people of His pasture (Psalm 95:7). He is for us, not against us (Romans 8:31). He is fighting our battles whenever we affirm our identity in Christ as his children. Whenever the going gets overwhelmingly tough and the tough cannot get going anymore, remind yourself of the story of Moses. He embraced his identity in God despite his shortcomings (Hebrews 11:24-25) and became a great leader.
“For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand” (Psalm 95:7)Tweet
After all, is said and done,
After all, is said and done, you stand in God knowing that things of the world do not define you. God does. Therefore, counter any identity disorder with God’s truth. When feeling discontent with life and lacking in confident, get truthful with yourself and appreciate God in your life. Instead of comparing your privileges, gifting or abilities with someone else, thank God for their achievements, beauty, high flying lifestyle. Then dream bigger and fill your thoughts with Biblical truths that resets your focus on God. He will allow his strength to perfect your weaknesses.
Suppose you want the beauty of Queen Esther and the courage of Joshua the son of Nun. Then pray it. The bravery of Naomi who recovered her fate in the God should encourage you. The same with the faith of Daniel in the lions den and the wisdom of King Solomon. Their stories will keep your hopes alive. If there was anything to do to overcome identity crisis, it is to fight negative thoughts with godly thoughts.
Finally, we encourage ourselves in the Lord and remember to “Be yourself, everybody else is taken”. Your DNA is different to others, and your paths in life are different. Stay in your own lane, follow it and become who God created you to be. Hopefully, some identity in Christ biblical declarations will help you recover quicker than you can blink an eye.
