Humble Yourself First

Christ said that “whoever wants to be greatest must be a servant” – Matthew 20:26. This simply means to humble yourself first and foremost if you want to be great among others. And if you want a change for good in your life, ask the Lord to start from your heart. Mother Theresa is honoured and well-loved today because she humbled herself. She did not count herself to be above the lepers whom she cared for. Instead, she moved her home to be among them, and she served them.

It was the heart of Saul that the Lord first changed before he became King Saul. The Lord first dealt with pride in King Nebuchadnezzar’s heart before he was restored to his throne after having been humbled by God to live like an animal. Saul’s heart was touched on his way to Damascus before he became Paul, an ardent follower of Christ and the preacher of the gospel of good news. It was also Zacchaeus’s heart that the Lord first changed before he repented of his sins, decided to give back everything he fraudulently collected from people, and followed Jesus.

There are so many examples in the Bible where the Lord first touched the heart before he performed one miracle or the other in their lives or through their lives. One thing I have come to realise, though, is that no matter how much I try and how decent I am perceived, I am in desperate need of this gift of humility much more now than ever before. I have come to realise recently that my character is nowhere near being Christ-like, and I have resorted to praying more for the heart of humility.

Perhaps you need heart surgery from the Lord like me. Perhaps you need to humble yourself first and see how the Lord promotes his own. The following declarations could be just the help you need to usher you into the necessary prayer for that great gift of humility.

Make a bold declaration of faith with me today.

Today, I will humble myself and be reflective. I will focus more on my inner beauty and work on my inner self. With the Holy Spirit on my side, I will humble myself first. I will be gentle and kind to others because this is of great value in God’s sight (1 Peter 3:3-4)
