Come away with me. Let us go to a quiet place and rest for a while (Mark 6:31-33).
I recently resigned from my day job, albeit abruptly and almost immediately, I started to fill in my free time with activities; researching for new roles, updating my CV, applying for jobs and doing everything else that was ignored during my employment. Now I know as a child of God that my life is in His hands and I believe that my steps are ordered by Him but Not once did I pause to think that the Lord must have ALLOWED my day job to end abruptly for a reason in this season. However, in a hiatus moment, the Lord reached out and said to me, come away with me…. there’s a reason I allowed that employment to end abruptly. There’s a reason for this free time. I need to show you something and I need you to pay close attention.
I saw myself asking the Lord, but Lord you’ve always got my attention. You know my heart and you know I will do whatever you ask me to do. If you needed me to resign, I would have done it eventually. Did my employment have to end that way? He said to me, I needed to get your full undivided attention. He led me to scriptures on how He got people’s attention in the Bible. Among those people are; Moses – God got his full attention with the burning bush. Abraham – God got his full attention by asking him to sacrifice his only beloved son. JESUS – Even He had to be led away for forty days in the wilderness. So I am saying to the Lord, now I get it. You have my full attention.
Now I realise that it may be difficult to give the Lord your full attention when at work or when you’re busy but you can pause in a moment and turn your attention to Christ. Mondays have been known to be one of the busiest days of the work week because there’s a lot to be done. But in the midst of that busyness, when you may be feeling stuck, frustrated, anxious, drained, emotionally unavailable and when you may have moments of blankness because your mind is too overwhelmed; in those moments, remember Jesus is saying to you; come away with me and refresh your mind in me. My yoke is easy and my burden is light. Turn to me and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28-30)
